What is National Data Privacy Day?
Whether it’s your personal records, financial statements or confidential business documents, protecting your privacy is important for your safety, your clients’ safety and the integrity of your business. While the integration of online services to almost all facets of our lives has made applying for jobs, scheduling doctors appointments and shopping a quick and convenient task, there are often risks associated with sharing too much information with the wrong places. Just a few simple clicks can, unfortunately, leave you vulnerable to having your personal information stolen.
National Data Privacy Day is held every January. Established in the United States in 2008, the goal is to increase awareness of potential privacy and data protection issues that can occur. The movement strives to empower individuals and businesses to protect their privacy, and that of their clients, by monitoring the amount of personal information they give out, as well as the places to whom they provide that information.
How Shred Events Can Help
Retention periods exist to protect your company from lawsuits and to ensure your compliance with state and federal regulations. Personal documents should adhere to similar schedules as well, to help protect your identity and keep your records up-to-date. Expired documents shouldn’t be discarded haphazardly, however, and that’s where Access’ Shred Events can help!
